Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I recently became a fellow for Future Leaders in Action, to help design South Bronx United’s (SBU) alumni program. There are currently over 140 young adults that call themselves Alumni of the SBU Academy, a program which engages youth in the South Bronx through their love of soccer, to support them with academics, leadership development, mentorship, and preparation for college. I am working with SBU’s Director of College Guidance and Alumni to incorporate social-emotional learning into the organization’s pedagogical approach to “college readiness.” Nearly all of our alumni are first generation college students; therefore, it is imperative for us to provide them with the necessary tools that will help them withstand the often challenging social, emotional, and financial realities they experience on their college campuses.
During my fellowship, I will work on the creation of a curriculum that will help equip our participants with the skills to navigate these challenges. By developing these skills in our alumni, we are ensuring their personal, interpersonal, academic, and professional growth beyond our program.
South Bronx United is an organization that has opened a lot of doors for me and has been a great resource for the South Bronx community over the past ten years. I am excited to be able to support my fellow SBU Alumni through social-emotional learning focused curriculum, a key program component that can determine one’s success in institutions of higher learning.
Your contribution will allow me to effectively execute this project, greatly impacting the lives of hundreds of girls and boys in South Bronx United’s various initiatives and youth development programs in the Bronx. Thank you in advance.
