This summer I am working as a Fellow with Future Leaders in Action. FLIA partners with youth-serving nonprofits to provide them with fellows to work on projects the nonprofit believes are important. My Future Leaders in Action Partner organization is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa. Big Brothers Big Sisters is an organization that matches "Bigs" which are adult volunteers with "littles" which are school age children facing adversity. This mentorship relationship is meant to give children the opportunity to have a stable adult presense in their life and provide them with a role model. Currently there are over 100 littles on the waitlist for bigs. I am working to increase the number of volunteers that Big Brothers Big Sisters has so that all of these littles have a big to look up to.
I believe this is a cause worth investing in because Big Brothers Big Sisters not only invests in youth, it invests in the community at large by cultivating strong relationships that provide opportunity for youth to ultimately become successful contributing members of society. Many mentoring relationships provide littles with paths to success that they otherwise would not have known about.
I've committed to fundraise for FLIA which in turn contributes what I've fundraised to my individual project. My goal is 750$. Any donation, no matter how small, is important and will make a difference in the lives of the children that Big Brothers Big Sisters will be able to serve because we've increased our volunteers. All donations are also tax deductible. If you are unable to donate I ask that you share this page on your social media sites to spread the word about the fundraiser and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Thank you and feel free to contact me if you have any addiontal questions about the fundraising page, BBBS or FLIA.
